Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems Sector has an opening for a Senior Principal Engineer Software to join Global Surveillance Division supporting the team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is in Melbourne, Florida.

The Software Systems Engineering design lead will manage requirements and design of the software systems and set process for the capture and dissemination of requirements and testing strategies of a large software system. This role will ensure that different modules and systems work together seamlessly and meet quality standards. They are responsible for isolating and decomposing system level requirements into the appropriate software level requirements. Designing modeling and maintaining a complex software-intensive system, this engineer will assist and direct the creation of test plans, automating tests, and ensuring that the software functions per the requirements specification.

This engineer will hold a strategic role crossing traditional boundaries of systems engineering and software engineering to incorporate aspects of software requirements design and development, automation, and strategic planning.

In addition to technical skills, the Software Systems Engineer is expected to have strong communication and collaboration skills. Have the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams to gather, define and decompose requirements, define testing criteria, and ensure alignment between the testing strategy and business objectives.

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance and Special Program Access is required.

Roles & Responsibilities include but aren’t limited to:

Thorough understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC)

Work with stakeholders to identify, document, and refine software requirements, turning business needs into actionable technical specifications.

Experience with test automation tools and frameworks

Defining project scope, establishing change management processes, and ensuring requirements are clear and testable

Collaborating with architects and developers to translate user needs into system architecture and design

Managing the software and systems Models as well as documentation (e.g., user stories, SRS documents) and facilitating review sessions.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

Evaluating, prioritizing, and managing requirements effectively

Experience with requirements management and tracking systems (e.g., DOORS)

Experience with defect tracking systems (e.g., Jira, Bugzilla)

Review, analyze, and incorporate technical requirements into end-to-end system architectures to include testing and documentation of results

Willingness to work Temporary/short-term off-peak hours assignments for time constrained HW/SW integration efforts

Ensure software and integration best practices

Basic Qualifications:

(Senior Principal Engineer Software) bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 8 or more years of experience in software engineering OR a Master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 6 or more years of experience in software engineering or a PhD with 4 or more years software engineering experience.

Experience with standard MBSE (Model-Based Systems Engineering) strategies

Experience with Agile software development

Experience with developing, maintaining and usage of standardized modeling languages like UML, SysML (Cameo EA), and SysML v2 to visualize system structure and behavior

Experience with software testing, defect reporting, configuration management and debugging using industry standard tools and processes

Experience with the Atlassian tool suite, plugins, Git, Jira and Confluence for planning and management of teams

Experience converting standard document design into a Cameo Model

The ability to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Government DOD Secret Clearance

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain special program access

Preferred Qualifications:

Active certification at DOD 8570 IAT Level II (Security+)

Experience with formal software test and Weapon System evaluations

US citizen with a current in-scope DoD secret or higher clearance

Currently the holder of a special program access

Full software development life cycle experience

Experience with engineering model maintenance and integrity

Experience with Requirements traceability and integration into MBSE models

Experience with decomposition of SSS and SSDS level requirements into Software level SRS level requirements

Experience bridging and merging a Systems level MBSE model with a Software based MBSE model

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
