Astrion is seeking a motivated 2nd Shift Laboratory Sampling Technician to support the LASSO II contract at Kennedy Space Center. In this role, you will operate and maintain sampling equipment to collect a variety of aerospace gas and fluid samples for laboratory analysis, playing a vital part in ensuring mission success and safety.

This position is being hired to support 2nd shift operations. However, the individuals will be required to train on 1st shift for an initial period to ensure full proficiency with operational procedures, equipment, and safety requirements. Additionally, based on mission needs and workload demands, the employee may be asked to provide continued or periodic support to 1st shift on a long-term basis.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1+ year of experience sampling aerospace-related commodities or operating sampling equipment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Ability to pass KSC-provided physicals: Fuel Handling, SCAPE, Working at Heights, Confined Space, Respirator
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Florida Commercial Driver’s License (Class C)
  • Comfortable working in enclosed spaces and at heights up to 500 feet
  • Strong ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work independently
  • Computer literate with the ability to record and analyze data accurately
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks under critical deadlines

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Transport hypergolic fuels, cryogens, high-pressure gases, and hardware safely from work areas to decontamination, cleaning facilities, and laboratories.
  • Set up, calibrate, repair, purge, and prepare sampling equipment for certification.
  • Calibrate equipment, make measurements using analytical instruments, calculate and record results, including critical launch support analysis.
  • Assist Chemist with analytical projects and data collection.
  • Ensure compliance to safety, environmental, quality and EPA/FL, DOH/NELAC standards, as trained and required.
  • Assist Chemists in non-routine tests and studies related to troubleshooting and/or simulation of aerospace systems and commodities.
  • Prepare and conduct general laboratory investigations with awareness of laboratory techniques, operations and instrumentation.
  • Perform calibrations, standardizations and certification of laboratory equipment, instrumentation and materials, as well as routine and essential maintenance.
  • Prepare analytical solutions and gas mixtures used in general laboratory analyses.
  • Assist Chemists in setup, modification, preparation and conducting specialized tests and projects assigned to the laboratory.
  • Suggest improvements and modifications to existing procedures and/or equipment and evaluating proposed or modified techniques.
  • Prepare reports as required and inform cognizant supervision of problem areas pertaining to laboratory operations, quality or safety.
  • Use computer-assisted automation and data calculation to generate analysis results.
  • Assist the company Point of Contact (POC) which includes RCRA compliance and maintains annual refresher training.
  • Issue Purchase Requests for the laboratory group.
  • Conduct on-site analyses using devices such as velometers, flowmeters, temperature/humidity instruments, contamination counters, leak rate probes, recorders, and gas regulator panels
  • Maintain accurate work records and document sampling system data
  • Assist in preparation, evaluation, and improvement of sampling procedures
  • Perform tasks as directed while ensuring compliance with laboratory best practices and safety policies
