Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking an Electrical Subsystem Wiring Design Engineer (Level 2) OR Principal Electrical Subsystem Wiring Design Engineer (Level 3) in aircraft subsystems development to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in defining the future. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL.
As the Electrical Subsystem Wiring Design Engineer, you will be engaged in multiple facets of aircraft subsystem development, including electrical design, analysis, requirements definition, lab testing, data post-processing, and issue troubleshooting. These subsystems may include, but are not limited to, Avionic System Architecture, Cable Design, and Electrical Power Generation & Distribution.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop electrical wiring designs for functional systems, including selection of aircraft-grade conductors and electro-mechanical components—such as connectors, relays, switches, circuit breakers, and terminal junction systems—in accordance with SAE AS50881 and established commercial practices.
- Support design requirements for electrical power generation, conversion, and distribution systems, and define circuit protection requirements for aerospace vehicle systems. Deliverables may include Electrical Loads Analysis, test procedures, power architectures, reports, and related analyses.
- Maintain familiarity with MIL-STD-704.
- Oversee all aspects of system and component design and development, including trade studies, layouts, architecture definition, system test and verification, and troubleshooting.
- Participate on subcontractor management teams and serve as the technical point of contact with suppliers for hardware development, qualification, and procurement.
- Plan, support, and execute system-level test activities, including verification, data processing, and troubleshooting.
- Conduct system-level evaluations to verify requirements are met and ensure compliance with airworthiness criteria.
Basic Qualifications
This requisition may be filled at an Electrical Subsystem Wiring Design Engineer (Level 2) OR Principal Electrical Subsystem Wiring Design Engineer (Level 3) level based on the qualifications below.
Electrical Subsystem Wiring Design Engineer (Level 2)
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 2 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related professional/military experience.
- Must have an active US Government Secret clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation) and the ability to obtain and maintain US Government Top Secret clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
- Experience in electrical design of air vehicle systems.
- Experience with CPLM or other similar Product Lifecycle Management software products.
- Experience using Capital or other similar wiring harness design tools for wiring diagrams and harness designs.
Principal Electrical Subsystem Wiring Design Engineer (Level 3)
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 5 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 1 year of related professional/military experience.
- Must have an active US Government Secret clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation) and the ability to obtain and maintain US Government Top Secret clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance, within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.
- Experience in electrical design of air vehicle systems.
- Experience with CPLM or other similar Product Lifecycle Management software products.
- Experience using Capital or other similar wiring harness design tools for wiring diagrams and harness designs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in military aircraft subsystem development covering requirements definition, specification development, component analysis, procurement, source selection, integration, test, and verification for advanced aircraft.
- Experience interpreting component detail drawings, specifications, installation drawings, and test procedures.
- Proficiency with NX or similar modeling software

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
